Yogi Government Launches Statewide Action Against Banned Manjha
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered an extensive crackdown to dismantle the illegal Chinese manjha (banned synthetic kite string) network operating across the state. Under the new directives, the government aims to eliminate the production, sale, storage, and transportation of this lethal kite thread with zero tolerance. Deaths caused by Chinese manjha will now be treated with utmost seriousness, with authorities classifying such incidents as criminal offenses rather than mere accidents.
As per an official statement, the decision comes amid increasing fatal accidents caused by the sharp, hazardous nylon kite string in various parts of Uttar Pradesh. The Chief Minister has instructed district administrations to conduct rigorous inspections of wholesale traders, online platforms, transport networks, and storage facilities to completely dismantle the supply chain.
Zero-Tolerance and Legal Action
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized that there would be a zero-tolerance policy towards the sale and possession of Chinese manjha. Everyone involved in producing, supplying, storing, or transporting the banned kite string will face strict legal action. Authorities should ensure that not a single reel of Chinese manjha is available for sale or kept in warehouses across the state.
Officials will monitor markets and take swift action against dealers found selling or storing banned manjha. Police chiefs and local administrators will be held accountable if any incidence occurs due to lax enforcement. The move underscores the state government’s commitment to public safety and enforcing the ban with stringent measures.
Online Surveillance and Enforcement
The crackdown extends to digital platforms, social media groups, and online marketplaces where the banned string is often advertised or sold illicitly. Specialized cyber-monitoring teams will work to identify suspicious listings and networks facilitating trade, and law enforcement will coordinate to trace payment trails and dismantle online supply chains.
Each district will appoint a nodal officer responsible for 24×7 enforcement, covering both offline and online operations. High-level review meetings will monitor progress and ensure strict implementation of directives without any slack.
Public Awareness and Outreach
In addition to enforcement measures, the government has launched public awareness initiatives in schools and colleges to educate children and youth about the dangers of Chinese manjha. These campaigns aim to reduce demand and discourage the use of banned kite strings, especially during kite-flying festivals and events.
Market associations, kite sellers, and community groups have been warned of harsh penalties and legal consequences for violating the ban at any level.
