Baba Barfani Laser & Sound Show to Dazzle Srinagar and Jammu Nights

Date:

Srinagar & Jammu, Feb 13, 2026: The Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board (SASB), under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, has approved a laser and sound show dedicated to Baba Barfani that will illuminate the nights of both Srinagar and Jammu for the first time. This landmark decision was made during the Board’s 50th meeting held on February 12, 2026.

First-Ever Laser & Sound Show

At the historic meeting of the SASB, the Board decided to organize a high-tech laser and sound spectacle to showcase the spiritual and cultural ethos of the Amarnath pilgrimage. The show aims to offer an immersive visual experience to devotees, tourists, and locals alike—bringing alive the legend of Baba Barfani, the snow-linga deity revered by millions.

The initiative is expected to boost tourism in the Union Territory and provide visitors with a breathtaking attraction that celebrates the region’s unique blend of natural beauty and deep spirituality.

Pratham Pooja & Official Yatra Start

The Board announced that the Pratham Pooja for Amarnath Yatra 2026 will be performed on June 29, coinciding with Jyeshtha Purnima. Although this marks the sacred beginning, the formal start date of the Yatra will be announced soon.

This decision offers spiritual reassurance to devotees planning the pilgrimage, especially after two consecutive years of travel disruptions due to weather challenges in the region.

Enhanced Safety & Services for Devotees

In a move to improve the safety and convenience of pilgrims, SASB has doubled accidental insurance coverage for registered travelers, service providers, officials, seasonal workers and priests from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh.

Additionally, the Board directed officials to:

  • Install modern toilets and rain shelters along the Yatra routes.

  • Set up safety railings, crash barriers, and improved medical facilities.

  • Enhance communications and disaster response systems.

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has also reported steady progress in widening and improving the Pahalgam and Baltal routes, which are vital corridors for pilgrims.

Significance of Baba Barfani

Known for the naturally formed ice Shivling inside the sacred Amarnath Cave, Baba Barfani attracts tens of thousands of devotees every year. The planned laser and sound show is expected to reinforce Jammu & Kashmir’s spiritual heritage while presenting it through modern artistic technology, making it appealing for a broader audience.
