Big Gift to Farmers: ₹10,000+ Crore Paddy Bonus to Be Transferred Before Holi

Date:

In a major pre-Holi relief measure for farmers, the Chhattisgarh government has approved a massive financial payout of over ₹10,000 crore to paddy growers. Under the Krishak Unnati Yojana, this one-time payment will be directly credited into farmers’ bank accounts ahead of the Holi festival — ensuring timely support and better cash flow during the festive period.

Government Decision and Announcement

The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai. The state has committed to compensating paddy farmers who sold their crop at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) by paying the price difference amount so that the effective rate reaches ₹3,100 per quintal — one of the highest state MSP compensation rates in the country.

This move aims to benefit around 25 lakh farmers who participated in the procurement operations for the Kharif marketing year 2025–26. Under this scheme, farmers will receive the additional bonus amount in a single installment directly into their accounts before Holi.

Scale of Paddy Procurement and Payments

During the current procurement season, the state government procured 141.04 lakh metric tonnes of paddy from farmers registered at government centers. The cumulative assistance provided under this scheme over the last two years is estimated to reach approximately ₹35,000 crore once this recent payment is included.

Why the Payment Matters

The payout serves multiple purposes:

  • Direct benefit to farmers by providing much-needed funds before festival expenses.

  • Boosts rural economy as increased liquidity stimulates local markets.

  • Reduces delays and middlemen influence, as funds are transferred directly.

Chief Minister Sai remarked that strengthening farmers’ financial stability was a priority and that this payment reflects the government’s commitment to agriculture and rural prosperity.
