Leopard Triggers Panic in Residential Area
Panic gripped a residential locality in Jammu after a leopard suddenly entered the area and attacked several people. The unexpected appearance of the wild animal created fear among residents, forcing authorities to launch an urgent rescue operation.
According to officials, the leopard was spotted in the green belt area of the locality during the late morning hours. Residents immediately alerted the wildlife department after noticing the animal roaming near houses and public spaces. As news spread, people gathered around the spot out of curiosity, while officials urged them to maintain distance for safety.
The leopard is believed to have strayed into the city from nearby forest areas, a phenomenon that has become increasingly common in regions close to wildlife habitats. The sudden encounter between humans and the wild animal caused chaos in the locality as residents rushed indoors to protect themselves.
Three People Injured in Leopard Attack
During the incident, three people were injured after the leopard attacked them. Among the injured were two wildlife department officials and one civilian who was reportedly the first person attacked by the animal.
Officials said the civilian suffered serious injuries to his face and head when the leopard pounced on him. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, a wildlife doctor and another helper were also injured while attempting to control the animal during the rescue operation.
Medical authorities confirmed that the injured individuals were admitted to hospital and received treatment. Their condition was reported to be stable after receiving medical care.
Rescue Operation Launched by Wildlife Department
Soon after receiving information about the leopard’s presence, the wildlife department rushed a rescue team to the location. The team arrived with tranquilliser guns and cages to safely capture the animal.
Officials said the operation lasted for more than two hours as the leopard moved across the area, making it difficult to approach. Police teams also assisted in the operation by controlling the crowd and ensuring public safety.
Despite the challenging situation, wildlife officials eventually managed to tranquillise the leopard. After it was subdued, the animal was safely placed inside a cage and removed from the locality.
Leopard Shifted to Zoo After Capture
Following the successful capture, the leopard was transported to a nearby zoo where it will be kept under observation. Wildlife officials stated that the animal appeared to have wandered into the city from forest areas in search of food or due to habitat disturbance.
Authorities have also issued advisories asking residents living near forest areas to remain cautious and report wildlife sightings immediately. Experts say that human expansion near forests is one of the main reasons for the increasing encounters between wild animals and people.
The incident once again highlights the growing issue of human-wildlife conflict in several parts of India, where animals often enter urban or semi-urban areas in search of food or shelter.
