Weather Update for Punjab and Chandigarh
The weather pattern in Punjab and the Union Territory of Chandigarh has changed once again, prompting authorities to issue a fresh alert. According to the Meteorological Department, several districts in the state may experience light to moderate rainfall in the coming hours, while strong winds and hailstorms could occur in some areas over the next few days.
Residents have been advised to remain cautious as the sudden shift in weather conditions could affect daily activities and agricultural operations across the region.
Rain Expected in Several Districts
As per the latest weather forecast, districts including Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar (Ropar), Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Nawanshahr, and Mohali are likely to witness light to moderate rainfall. Meanwhile, Chandigarh is expected to see mostly clear skies during the day, although weather conditions may change quickly depending on atmospheric developments.
For the immediate hours, meteorologists have also issued a short-term alert predicting light showers in Mohali, Chandigarh, and Panchkula. Such brief spells of rain are typical during transitional weather phases when western disturbances influence the region.
Possibility of Storms and Hailstorms
Weather officials have warned that conditions may worsen starting March 19. For approximately three days, many parts of Punjab could experience rainfall accompanied by strong winds and isolated hailstorms. These sudden weather events may affect crops, road travel, and outdoor activities.
Farmers, in particular, have been urged to stay updated with official advisories, as hailstorms during this time of the year can damage standing crops such as wheat and vegetables.
Temperature Trends Across the State
Despite the changing weather, daytime temperatures in most cities of Punjab have recently remained between 25°C and 30°C. Sri Anandpur Sahib recorded the highest temperature at around 30.2°C, indicating that early summer conditions are gradually developing across the state.
However, meteorologists say this warming trend may not last long. The fluctuating weather pattern could lead to a noticeable drop in temperatures after a brief rise.
Expected Rise and Fall in Temperature
According to weather experts, temperatures may increase by around 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next couple of days. After that, a significant drop of 5 to 7 degrees Celsius is expected within the following three days.
Such fluctuations are largely linked to recent rainfall and snowfall in the nearby hill regions. Two days earlier, rain in the plains and snowfall in the mountains had temporarily lowered temperatures, bringing a slight chill back to the atmosphere. However, clear skies on Monday allowed the daytime temperature to increase by nearly 4.7 degrees, bringing it closer to normal levels.
Impact on Daily Life
Changing weather conditions often create mixed impacts for residents. While rain can bring temporary relief from rising heat, sudden storms and hail may disrupt transportation, electricity supply, and outdoor activities.
Authorities recommend that residents keep track of official weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather warnings. Farmers and agricultural workers should also take precautionary measures to protect crops from possible damage caused by hail or strong winds.
With weather conditions expected to remain unstable over the coming days, people across Punjab are advised to stay alert and follow updates issued by the meteorological department.
