Earthquake Tremors Shake Nepal and Indonesia, Residents Panic

Date:

Tremors Felt in Nepal Early Morning

A mild earthquake was reported in Nepal, causing brief panic among residents in several districts. According to reports, the earthquake struck early in the morning at around 2:22 AM local time.

The tremor measured 4.0 on the Richter scale and its epicenter was located in the Dainakot area of Mugu district in the Karnali Province. The earthquake was felt not only in Mugu but also in nearby districts such as Humla, Jumla, and Kalikot.

Local residents reported feeling the ground shake for a few seconds, prompting many people to rush out of their homes in fear. However, authorities confirmed that there were no immediate reports of major damage or casualties following the tremor.

Earthquake Also Recorded in Indonesia

On the same day, another earthquake was reported in Indonesia. According to seismic monitoring agencies, the quake struck around 1:01 PM local time near the Miangas region in North Sulawesi.

The tremor measured 4.6 magnitude, with the epicenter located close to Miangas island at a depth of approximately 58 kilometers beneath the Earth’s surface. Experts classified the earthquake as a moderate-depth seismic event.

Different international seismic agencies recorded slightly varying readings. While some organizations reported the magnitude at 4.6, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre estimated the magnitude closer to 3.3.

No Major Damage Reported So Far

Authorities in both countries have stated that there are no confirmed reports of casualties or significant property damage so far. Local administrations and disaster management agencies remain alert and are monitoring the situation closely.

Earthquakes of moderate magnitude are relatively common in both Nepal and Indonesia due to their location along active tectonic zones. Indonesia lies within the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” a region known for frequent seismic and volcanic activity.

Authorities Urge Public to Remain Alert

Officials have advised residents to remain cautious and follow official updates from local disaster management authorities. Even mild earthquakes can sometimes lead to aftershocks, which may pose additional risks.

Emergency teams in affected regions have been placed on standby, and authorities have assured citizens that they are closely monitoring seismic developments.

Experts also emphasize the importance of preparedness measures such as earthquake-safe buildings, public awareness, and emergency response planning to reduce potential risks during future seismic events.
