Crime in India Sees Sharp Rise
The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) released its annual report on Tuesday, highlighting the alarming rise in crimes across India during 2023. According to the report, a total of 62,41,569 crimes were registered in the country, marking a 7.2% increase compared to 2022.
Women Face the Highest Violence
The report underlined that women remain the biggest victims of violence in India. A total of 4.48 lakh crimes against women were reported nationwide — the highest in the past 10 years.

Rajasthan topped in rape cases with 5,078 incidents.

Uttar Pradesh reported the highest number of murders (3,206 cases).
Trends in Major Crimes
While overall crimes increased, the report noted a decline in certain heinous crimes such as murders, rapes, and dacoity compared to the previous years. However, rape remained the most reported crime against women, followed by murders and dacoities.
