Major Road Repair Project to Cover 19,000 KM of Link Roads

The Punjab government has announced a massive ₹2872 crore project to repair and upgrade nearly 19,000 kilometers of broken link roads across the state. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will inaugurate this ambitious project today in Tarn Taran.

Roads to Be Widened from 10 Feet to 18 Feet

Under this plan, damaged link roads will not only be repaired but also widened from the existing 10 feet to 18 feet. The construction companies assigned will also take responsibility for the maintenance of these roads for the next five years.

Government Allocates ₹3500 Crore for Road Development

The Punjab government has allocated a total budget of ₹3500 crore for this initiative:

  • ₹2872 crore for road repair and maintenance.

  • ₹587 crore for other infrastructure-related works.

Survey Completed, Work to Begin Immediately

The survey work for all the roads has already been completed. The state government will act as the nodal agency for this project, ensuring smooth execution and accountability.

Monitoring Committee for Quality Control

To ensure high-quality road construction, a joint coordination committee with members from both sides will be formed. This committee will closely monitor construction standards so that there is no compromise on road quality.

Project Delayed Due to Floods

Although the project was initially planned to begin in August 2025, heavy floods in Punjab caused delays. Now, the government is set to roll out the work immediately to make up for the lost time.

Political Significance Ahead of 2027 Elections

This project holds major political importance for the ruling government as the countdown for the 2027 Assembly Elections has already begun. The initiative is expected to boost rural connectivity and win public support.
