Heavy Rain Alert Issued for Jalandhar: IMD Predicts Downpours and Temperature Dip in Punjab

Meteorological Department Issues Yellow Alert for Punjab Districts

The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning predicting moderate to heavy rainfall across several parts of Punjab, including Jalandhar. According to meteorologists, changing atmospheric conditions and active monsoon winds have triggered intense shower predictions over the coming days. The monsoon activity is expected to bring widespread precipitation, offering relief from high humidity levels while simultaneously raising concerns over urban waterlogging in low-lying areas. Residents in Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, and neighboring regions have been advised to take precautions when traveling.

Temperature Drops Across Jalandhar and Surrounding Regions

Following the arrival of fresh rain spells, temperatures across Jalandhar and adjacent districts are expected to plummet by 3°C to 5°C. Maximum temperatures, which were hovering near uncomfortable levels due to monsoon humidity, will see a noticeable reduction, bringing cool relief to citizens. However, monsoon showers are likely to be accompanied by strong surface winds and thunderstorm activity during peak evening hours, causing sudden changes in local weather patterns.

Administration Warns of Waterlogging and Traffic Disruptions

Civic authorities and local municipal corporations in Jalandhar have been put on alert to tackle potential waterlogging in vulnerable urban pockets. Low-lying areas such as Model Town, Burlton Park, Rama Mandi, and the vicinity of the railway station often experience severe drainage bottlenecks during intense downpours. The traffic police department has issued advisories encouraging commuters to plan their journeys, keep headlights functional during low visibility, and avoid parking near old trees or weak structures during gusty winds.

Impact on Agriculture and Rural Paddy Fields

Farmers across Doaba’s agricultural belt have welcomed the rainfall forecast, as monsoon showers provide crucial irrigation to the ongoing paddy (rice) sowing season. Agronomists note that timely rains reduce dependency on groundwater extraction through tubewells, lowering operational costs for farmers. However, excess water accumulation in low-lying fields could pose challenges for young crops, prompting district agriculture officers to recommend proper drainage measures in low-elevation farmland.

Precautionary Measures and Emergency Guidelines for Citizens

With continuous rainfall anticipated throughout the week, local administration officers advise residents to remain indoors during active lightning and thunder spells. Citizens are instructed to keep emergency helpline numbers handy, avoid touching exposed electric wires or transformers, and ensure rooftop drainage outlets are clear of debris. District disaster management teams remain prepared to monitor water levels in drains and rivers across the region.
