Jalandhar Municipal Corporation Seals Commercial Shops Over Property Tax Dues and Illegal Construction

Date:

Strict Action Initiated Against Property Tax Defaulters

In a major crackdown against revenue evasion and civic violations, the Municipal Corporation Jalandhar (MCJ) conducted an intensive enforcement drive targeting non-compliant commercial properties across key market corridors. Led by senior building branch inspectors and property tax recovery officers, civic teams inspected multiple commercial establishments that failed to clear outstanding property tax arrears despite repeated official notices. The enforcement wing executed immediate sealing actions on non-responsive units, warning that strict measures will continue against persistent defaulters.

Municipal officials highlighted that property tax forms a vital component of the civic body’s revenue needed for urban infrastructure development, road maintenance, and sanitation services. Property owners who fail to clear their dues within specified timelines risk facing legal recovery proceedings, penalty surcharges, and immediate disconnection of civic utility services alongside property sealing.

Cracking Down on Illegal Commercial Constructions and Encroachments

Parallel to the tax recovery campaign, the MCJ building branch targeted unauthorized structural alterations and illegal commercial constructions carried out without approved building plans. Several commercial premises operating in violation of municipal bylaws were served immediate stop-work orders or sealed on the spot. Inspector teams reviewed structural permissions, floor-area ratios, and commercial parking compliance across busy commercial hubs to deter unapproved urban expansion.

Civic authorities reiterated that any unauthorized construction disrupting traffic flow, encroaching on public land, or violating safety norms will face swift demolition or sealing. Property developers and business operators have been strongly urged to secure proper approvals, submit valid building plans, and strictly adhere to zoning laws before undertaking structural work.

Civic Body Urges Prompt Tax Payment and Compliance

To prevent harsh administrative actions, the Municipal Corporation of Jalandhar appealed to all commercial property owners, shopkeepers, and residents to clear their pending tax liabilities immediately. Special recovery camps and online payment portals have been operationalized to enable convenient tax clearing. Municipal leaders emphasized that public cooperation is essential to maintaining smooth civic operations and accelerating urban development projects across the city.

Officials affirmed that routine inspection drives and targeted sealing operations will remain active in the coming weeks across all municipal zones. Commercial establishments failing to align with municipal guidelines will face zero tolerance under standard municipal enforcement regulations.
