What to Do If You Get Burned or Injured by Firecrackers: Doctors’ Emergency Tips

Date:

Firecracker Safety During Diwali

While enjoying fireworks during Diwali, it’s crucial to follow safety rules. Burns and eye injuries are common during this time, so knowing the right first aid can prevent serious damage.
We have shared important emergency tips.

Eye Injuries or Smoke Exposure

The most common mistake people make when something enters their eye is rubbing it, which can damage the cornea.

  • Rinse your eyes immediately with clean water if exposed to smoke or chemicals.

  • If you wear contact lenses, remove them instantly as they can absorb chemicals.

  • Use eye drops or medication only under a doctor’s guidance.

  • Avoid going near smoky areas or bursting crackers that can harm your eyes.

First Aid for Skin Burns

suggests these steps if your skin gets burned by a firecracker:

  • Immediately wash the affected area with cold running water.

  • Do not apply toothpaste, turmeric, or coffee powder — these can cause infections.

  • Do not burst blisters; they protect against further infection.

  • For severe burns, go to a hospital immediately and avoid home remedies.

Special Care for Children

Both doctors emphasized extra care for children:

  • Kids should burst crackers only under adult supervision.

  • Keep a bucket of water and a first-aid kit nearby.

  • Allow children to use only safe and small crackers.
