Australia Beat India by 2 Wickets in the 2nd ODI

Australia defeated India by 2 wickets in the second ODI played in Adelaide, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. India had set a target of 265 runs after scoring 264/9 in 50 overs. The Aussies chased it down with 22 balls to spare, marking India’s first ODI loss in Adelaide after 17 years.

Cooper Connolly and Matthew Short Lead Australia to Victory

Australia’s heroes were Cooper Connolly and Matthew Short. Coming in at a crucial moment with the score at 132/4, Connolly played a match-winning unbeaten knock of 61 runs off 53 balls, hitting 5 fours and a six. Short also contributed a vital 74 runs off 78 balls, featuring 4 boundaries and 2 sixes.

Strong Recovery After Early Setbacks

Chasing 265, Australia’s start was poor with Mitchell Marsh (11) and Travis Head (28) falling early. However, Short partnered with Matt Renshaw (30 off 30) for a 155-run stand for the third wicket, rescuing the innings. After Renshaw and Carey’s dismissals, Connolly and Owen (36 off 23) ensured the chase stayed on track.

Indian Bowlers Struggle to Defend the Total

Despite half-centuries from Rohit Sharma (73 off 97), Shreyas Iyer (61 off 77), and Axar Patel (44 off 41), India’s bowlers couldn’t defend 264. Adam Zampa starred for Australia with 4 wickets for 60 runs, while Xavier Bartlett took 3 for 39, including the prized wicket of Virat Kohli (0).
