Delhi Metro recorded 82,44,903 passenger boardings on September 17, the highest-ever in a single day, amid the ongoing DTC bus strike.
Delhi Metro Records Highest-Ever Passenger Footfall
New Delhi, September 19, 2026: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has registered its highest-ever single-day passenger boardings, with 82,44,903 boardings recorded on September 17.
The record came amid the ongoing Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus strike, which has pushed more commuters towards the Metro network.
The latest figure was 1,73,273 higher than the 80,71,630 passenger boardings recorded on September 16.
Yellow Line Sees Highest Passenger Movement
Among individual Metro corridors, the Yellow Line recorded the highest number of passenger boardings at 20,89,465.
It was followed by the Blue Line, which recorded 17,28,658 boardings, while the Pink Line registered 9,41,527.
The overall figure also includes passenger movement on the Airport Express Line and Rapid Metro Gurgaon services.
Additional Metro Services Deployed
To manage the increased passenger rush caused by the DTC strike, DMRC increased train services across its network.
The Metro operator had announced additional train trips and deployed extra trains during peak hours to accommodate the higher demand and ensure smoother passenger movement.
DMRC also advised commuters to plan their journeys accordingly during the period of increased passenger movement.
Previous Record Surpassed
The latest figure has surpassed the earlier record of 81,88,115 passenger boardings, recorded on August 8, 2025.
The new milestone highlights the increased dependence on the Delhi Metro when other public transport services face disruptions.
With the DTC strike continuing, the Metro network is expected to remain under additional pressure as commuters look for alternative modes of transportation.
