INDIA NAMED ‘COUNTRY OF THE YEAR’ AT BIOFACH 2026 IN GERMANY

India’s Historic Recognition at BIOFACH 2026

India has been officially designated as the “Country of the Year” at BIOFACH 2026, the world’s largest and most prestigious trade fair for organic products, being held from 10–13 February 2026 in Nuremberg, Germany. This honor highlights India’s growing prominence in the global organic farming and export ecosystem, reasserting its position as a leader in sustainable agriculture after 14 years.

The event, organized by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, offers a high-impact platform to showcase India’s diverse organic offerings. Indian participation this year is the most expansive ever, reflecting both the strength and depth of the country’s organic sector.

India Country Pavilion: A Global Showcase

At the heart of India’s presence at BIOFACH 2026 is the India Country Pavilion, a sprawling 1,074 square-meter exhibit featuring 67 co-exhibitors. These include organic producers, exporters, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), cooperatives, state government agencies, and commodity boards from over 20 Indian states and Union Territories — spanning regions like Assam, Gujarat, Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Uttarakhand.

The pavilion showcases an extensive range of certified organic products, such as rice (including GI-tagged varieties), pulses, spices, herbs, oilseeds, essential oils, cashew, ginger, and turmeric. Live tastings of Indian organic specialties — including aromatic biryani and traditional rice varieties like Chak Hao (black rice), Gobindbhog, and Red Rice — are being offered to international visitors as part of interactive engagement efforts.

Strategic Importance for Organic Trade

BIOFACH is recognized globally as the culminating trade event for organic food and agriculture, uniting producers, buyers, policymakers, certification bodies, and stakeholders from around the world. India’s designation as Country of the Year not only elevates its global visibility but also reinforces its strategic role in sustainable agriculture, responsible consumption, and international organic supply chains.

Officials highlight that this recognition offers Indian exporters unprecedented B2B networking opportunities with buyers from over 100 countries, creating pathways for strengthened partnerships, increased exports, and enhanced trade ties — especially with key markets in Europe following recent trade negotiations.

What This Means for India’s Organic Sector

Being named Country of the Year at BIOFACH 2026 demonstrates India’s maturity as a trusted global supplier of high-quality organic products and showcases its biodiversity, sustainability focus, and traditional agricultural strengths. This achievement is expected to accelerate India’s organic export journey, opening new markets and fostering innovation in organic production and certification.
