Most Profitable Diwali Film: Unbroken Record for 30 Years

Date:

Diwali is one of the biggest festivals in India, and every year, numerous films are released during this festive season. While many films perform well at the box office, only a few manage to set extraordinary records. One such film released 30 years ago created a benchmark that has still not been broken.

The Classic Hit: Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge

The cult-classic romantic film “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge” (DDLJ), starring Shahrukh Khan and Kajol, released in 1995. With a modest budget of just ₹4 crore, the film went on to earn ₹53.5 crore at the Indian box office.

This translated to a whopping 1225% profit, making DDLJ the most profitable Diwali film of all time.

Diwali Box Office Magic

Every year, films from Bollywood and South Indian cinema hit the theaters during Diwali. While some films earn huge revenue, only a few create history by earning multiple times their budget. DDLJ stands out because of its massive profits and enduring popularity, making it a timeless classic.
