Strong Earthquake Rocks Central Philippines

A powerful 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck central Philippines on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, causing widespread devastation. At least 22 people lost their lives, while several towns and villages suffered massive destruction. According to DZMM Radio reports, the tremors brought down homes, damaged roads, and triggered landslides.

Epicenter Near Bogo City

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the earthquake’s epicenter was located about 17 km northeast of Bogo City, a coastal town with a population of nearly 90,000. The quake was triggered along a local fault line, severely impacting surrounding communities.

Bogo Suffers Maximum Damage

Bogo emerged as one of the worst-hit areas, with at least 14 confirmed deaths. Officials warned that the toll could rise as rescue operations continue. A landslide in a nearby mountain village buried several huts, making rescue efforts extremely dangerous.

Difficult Rescue Operations

Disaster response officer Glen Ursel told the Associated Press that accessibility remains a challenge due to collapsed infrastructure and dangerous conditions. Heavy machinery, including backhoes, is being deployed to speed up rescue missions for people trapped under rocks and debris.

Six Dead in San Remigio, Including Coast Guard and Child

In neighboring San Remigio town, six deaths were confirmed. According to Deputy Mayor Alfie Reynes, victims included three Coast Guard personnel, a firefighter, and a child. Speaking to DZMM Radio, Reynes appealed for urgent relief supplies, stating:

“Our water supply system has been damaged. We urgently need food and clean water for our people.”

Eyewitness Accounts Reveal Panic

Witnesses in Bogo recounted the terrifying moments when the quake struck. Firefighter Ray Cate said he and his team were caught off guard:
