Drug Smuggler Arrested with Heroin in Punjab, Police Register Case

Date:

Police Nab Suspect During Checkpoint Operation

In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking in Punjab, security forces arrested a suspected drug smuggler during a special checkpoint operation. The joint action was carried out by police personnel along with security agencies as part of ongoing efforts to curb narcotics smuggling in the region.

Officials said the suspect was intercepted during routine checking when he was seen moving suspiciously near the checkpoint. After being stopped and questioned, security personnel conducted a search that led to the recovery of heroin from his possession.

The accused was immediately taken into custody and further investigation was launched to determine the source of the drugs and possible links to a larger smuggling network.

Heroin Recovered from the Accused

According to police officials, around 425 grams of heroin was recovered from the accused during the search operation. The suspect was identified as Sona Singh, a resident of Chak Bajida village.

Authorities stated that the seizure was made during a naka (checkpoint) operation conducted near a sand pit area in Jalalabad. The suspect was reportedly approaching the area on foot when police and Border Security Force personnel became suspicious and stopped him for questioning.

During the search, the narcotic substance was recovered from his possession, confirming suspicions that he was involved in drug trafficking.

Case Registered Under NDPS Act

Following the recovery, a case has been registered against the accused under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Police officials said the accused has been formally arrested and taken into custody for further interrogation. Investigators are now trying to identify the source of the heroin and determine whether the suspect is part of a larger smuggling network operating in the region.

Authorities also indicated that the accused may have been involved in supplying drugs to local distributors.

Ongoing Crackdown on Drug Smuggling

Punjab has been facing a long-standing challenge related to drug trafficking, particularly in districts close to the international border. Law-enforcement agencies have intensified their operations in recent months to dismantle smuggling networks.

Police and security agencies frequently conduct joint operations, checkpoints, and search drives in suspected areas to prevent illegal narcotics from entering the state.

In many recent cases, smugglers have been caught transporting heroin and other narcotics intended for distribution across different parts of Punjab. Authorities say continuous surveillance and intelligence-based operations are helping them detect such activities more effectively.

Investigation Continues

Police officials confirmed that the investigation is still underway. Officers are questioning the accused to gather more information about possible accomplices and the supply chain involved in the drug trade.

Authorities are also examining whether the recovered drugs were intended for local distribution or part of a larger interstate or cross-border smuggling network.

Officials reiterated their commitment to continue strict action against drug smugglers and maintain vigilance in vulnerable areas to curb narcotics trafficking in the state.
