Key Appointment in the PMO

The Government of India has assigned an important responsibility to IAS officer Ravi Mittal, who has been appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). The appointment has been made on deputation and is seen as a significant step in his administrative career.

According to official orders issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Ravi Mittal to the PMO. He will serve in the position for four years from the date he assumes charge or until further orders, whichever comes earlier.

The Prime Minister’s Office plays a crucial role in policy coordination, governance monitoring, and administrative decision-making at the highest level of the central government. Being posted in the PMO is considered one of the most important assignments for senior civil servants in India.

Current Role and Responsibilities

Before receiving this new assignment, Ravi Mittal was serving as Commissioner of Public Relations in Chhattisgarh. In this role, he handled communication and information management responsibilities for the state government. His administrative experience and performance in various roles reportedly contributed to his selection for this key position in the PMO.

The move reflects the central government’s effort to bring experienced officers into the PMO to assist with policy implementation, administrative coordination, and communication between different ministries and departments.

Administrative Background and Career

Ravi Mittal is a 2016-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre. Over the years, he has held several important administrative posts at the district and state levels.

Earlier in his career, Mittal served as Collector of Jashpur district, where he handled various development and governance initiatives. He also worked as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of District Panchayats in districts such as Mahasamund, Raigarh, and Raipur. These assignments provided him with extensive grassroots administrative experience.

In addition, he served as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Bagicha in 2018. Through these roles, he gained expertise in local governance, rural development programs, and administrative management.

Educational Background

Apart from his administrative achievements, Ravi Mittal has a strong academic background. He completed his MBBS degree from Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi before joining the civil services.

After his medical education, he chose to pursue a career in public administration and successfully cleared the prestigious UPSC Civil Services Examination, joining the IAS. His transition from a medical professional to a senior civil servant highlights his commitment to public service.

Significance of the Appointment

Posting in the PMO is widely regarded as a prestigious opportunity for IAS officers, as it allows them to work closely with senior policymakers and contribute to national-level governance.

Ravi Mittal’s appointment as Deputy Secretary is expected to strengthen administrative coordination within the PMO and support key government initiatives. His diverse experience in district administration and state governance is likely to help him effectively contribute to policy implementation and administrative decision-making at the national level.
