Tragic Drone Attack on Ukrainian Family
In a devastating incident in Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region, a Russian military drone strike destroyed a family home and killed four civilians, including a father and his three young children. The attack occurred late at night in the town of Bohodukhiv, near the Russian border, intensifying global concerns as the Russia-Ukraine war enters its fourth year.
Details of the Attack
Local authorities reported that the Russian attack used a Geran-2 strike drone, a version of the Iranian-made Shahed drone operated by Russian forces. The drone struck a private residential house, instantly collapsing the structure and igniting a fire that trapped the family under rubble.
The victims included:
-
A 34-year-old father
-
Twin boys, aged 2 years
-
A 1-year-old daughter
All four died at the scene, according to the Kharkiv regional prosecutor’s office.
Pregnant Mother Critically Injured
Rescuers pulled the children’s mother from the rubble alive. She was 35 weeks pregnant and rushed to hospital with severe injuries including:
-
Blast injuries
-
Traumatic brain injury
-
Burns and hearing damage
Doctors are fighting to save her life and the unborn child’s, officials said.
Investigation and War Crime Allegations
The regional prosecutor’s office has launched a pre-trial investigation, classifying the strike as a possible war crime due to the death of civilians. The attack has underscored international alarm over the safety of non-combatants in the nearly four-year-long conflict.
Wider Russian Drone Offensive
According to military sources, Russian forces launched over 129 long-range drones across Ukraine that night, targeting infrastructure and civilian areas. Despite ongoing U.S.-mediated peace efforts, attacks have continued with little sign of de-escalation.
Ukrainian Counteractions
In response, Ukrainian drones struck a Russian industrial facility in Volgograd, causing a fire. Several Russian airports briefly suspended flights due to security concerns.
