Samsung has officially unveiled its most ambitious foldable smartphone yet—the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Introduced at the Galaxy Unpacked event in London, the new flagship foldable retains the iconic silhouette of its predecessor while packing major performance, camera, and battery improvements under the hood. Designed for power users seeking top-tier productivity and photography, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra sets a new benchmark in the premium smartphone segment.
Design and Build: Thinner Profile with Flex Titanium Tech
At just 4.1mm unfolded and 8.9mm folded, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is Samsung’s slimmest book-style foldable to date. Despite its ultra-thin chassis, the device maintains a comfortable 215-gram weight. Samsung has introduced its new Flex Titanium display structure, combining a high-strength titanium-alloy film with an enhanced frame to boost durability, absorb impact, and reduce screen crease visibility. The outer cover glass is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3, while Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 covers the rear. It also carries an IP48 rating for water and dust resistance.
Display Experience: Brighter Panels and Reduced Glare
The main interior screen is a massive 8.0-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel offering a resolution of 2504×2256 pixels, a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. It features an advanced anti-reflective coating that dramatically improves outdoor visibility under direct sunlight. Complementing the inner panel is a 6.5-inch cover screen (1080×2520 pixels) with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, ensuring seamless operation without opening the main display.
Performance and Hardware: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5
Powering the device is Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor. Coupled with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS storage, the foldable effortlessly handles multi-window multitasking, high-end gaming, and AI processing. An expanded graphite vapor chamber structure improves thermal management during heavy workloads.
Camera Setup: 200MP Primary Sensor and Upgraded Ultrawide
The camera system sees notable upgrades, led by a 200MP primary sensor with OIS, Quad Pixel autofocus, and full HDR photo output. Samsung replaced the previous generation’s ultrawide module with an all-new 50MP ultrawide lens that supports macro photography. A 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and two 10MP selfie cameras (one on the cover screen, one inside) round out the package. Video recording supports up to 8K at 30fps with professional APV codec and Cine LUT color grading support.
Battery, Charging, and Software Features
Addressing a persistent foldable concern, Samsung packed a 5,000mAh battery into the ultra-thin chassis. Using a dual-path 45W wired charging system, the device reaches 67% charge in approximately 30 minutes. It also supports 20W fast wireless charging. Software is handled by Android 17 with One UI 9, integrated with deep Gemini Intelligence agentic AI capabilities for multi-step tasks across more than 40 native and third-party apps.
