Date:

The Rapid Acceleration of India’s Electric Mobility Segment

India’s electric vehicle segment is evolving at an unprecedented pace, shifting from initial adoption into mainstream popularity. Car manufacturers are aggressively expanding their portfolios to cater to diverse customer segments, ranging from budget-conscious city commuters to luxury-focused adventure enthusiasts. The upcoming wave of electric vehicles highlights a perfect balance between affordable entry-level models and feature-loaded premium SUVs. Major automakers including Tata Motors, Hyundai, VinFast, and Mahindra & Mahindra are gearing up to unveil key models that promise to redefine range, performance, digital cabin technology, and daily convenience for Indian buyers.

Budget-Friendly Electric Offerings: VinFast VF5 and Hyundai Ioniq P

At the entry level and sub-compact end of the spectrum, brands are focusing on high accessibility and smart urban mobility. Vietnamese automaker VinFast is preparing to introduce the VF5 as a key model in its Indian lineup. Positioned below the VF6, this compact EV crossover features sharp, aggressive styling and is tailored specifically for urban buyers seeking an affordable electric vehicle. Meanwhile, Hyundai is developing a compact electric SUV under the internal project codename HE1i, which is expected to be named the Hyundai Ioniq P. Built on advanced EV platform architecture, the Ioniq P will sit below the Creta EV to deliver high efficiency, modern digital cabin features, and practical city driving range at a competitive price point.

High-End Premium Electric SUVs: Tata Safari EV and Mahindra BE.07

For buyers seeking large family haulers and high-performance electric SUVs, Tata Motors and Mahindra are expanding their top-tier lineups. Tata Motors is set to launch the three-row Safari EV, extending the capabilities seen on its acti.ev platform. The Safari EV will offer a spacious three-row cabin, advanced ADAS capabilities, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, large battery options with range figures crossing 500 km, and potential dual-motor All-Wheel Drive (AWD) variants. Concurrently, Mahindra is preparing to launch the BE.07 under its Born Electric lineup. Built on the dedicated INGLO platform, the BE.07 features striking futuristic design, high-capacity battery options up to 79 kWh, multi-screen interior layouts, and impressive acceleration capabilities, setting a new benchmark for premium electric SUVs in India.

Strategic Market Impact and Industry Outlook

The upcoming launches represent a decisive shift in how Indian consumers evaluate electric personal mobility. By addressing both affordable under-4-meter segments and spacious three-row premium utility vehicles, automakers are effectively eliminating range anxiety, high price barriers, and feature limitations. As charging infrastructure continues to expand across national highways and urban hubs, these upcoming electric vehicles from Tata, Hyundai, VinFast, and Mahindra will play a central role in driving EV adoption across all key price segments in India.
