Russian Parliament Approves Key Military Logistics Pact With India Ahead of Putin’s Visit

Date:

What Happened: Major Defence Step Before Summit

Russia’s State Duma has officially approved an important military logistics agreement with India, just days before President Vladimir Putin’s scheduled visit to New Delhi.
This agreement marks a significant expansion of defence cooperation between the two nations.

The approval strengthens preparations for the upcoming India–Russia bilateral summit.

What the Pact Includes

The agreement allows:

  • Indian and Russian warships to access each other’s naval bases

  • Military aircraft to refuel and undergo maintenance in both countries

  • Armed forces from both sides to use logistics facilities during joint drills, emergencies or humanitarian missions

This pact improves operational readiness and reduces time, cost and logistical barriers for both nations.

Strategic Importance

For India, the pact boosts military mobility in remote regions, enhances naval operations and supports faster deployment during crises.

For Russia, it strengthens cooperation with a long-standing strategic partner in Asia and expands its operational reach in the Indian Ocean region.

Experts see this as a powerful signal that India and Russia continue deep defence ties despite changing global geopolitical dynamics.

Ahead of Putin’s Visit

President Putin is set to visit New Delhi soon, and the approval of this pact is seen as an important diplomatic gesture.
Both countries are expected to discuss defence, energy, trade and long-term strategic projects during the summit.
