Major Anti-Terror Operation Underway in Jammu & Kashmir’s Kishtwar

Date:

Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have initiated a significant anti-terrorism campaign, ‘Operation Trashi-I’, primarily focused on the Kishtwar district. This comprehensive operation, which commenced in January 2026, aims to dismantle active terrorist networks and their support systems across the region, particularly in the challenging hilly terrains.

Operation Trashi-I: A Joint Anti-Terror Initiative

Operation Trashi-I is a coordinated effort involving the Indian Army, Jammu & Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force. Launched from the Chatru area of Kishtwar, a region historically susceptible to militant activities due to its dense forests and mountainous landscape, the operation follows confirmed intelligence about the presence of Pakistan-backed terrorist organizations, including Jaish-e-Mohammed.

Recent activities include an encounter on January 31, 2026, between security personnel and terrorists in the Dolgam and Chatru areas of Kishtwar. This contact was established after thorough intelligence analysis and led to a cordon and search operation, which remains ongoing. Additionally, a Pakistani drone was detected infiltrating Indian airspace in Chaliyari village on the same day, prompting BSF forces to fire four rounds, after which the drone retreated across the border. A search operation is also active in this vicinity.

Strategic Objectives and Operational Challenges

The scope of Operation Trashi-I extends beyond immediate encounters, forming a long-term strategy against terrorism in the Jammu region. Key objectives include identifying and neutralizing terrorists concealed in inaccessible mountainous and forested areas, disrupting their weapon supply chains, logistics networks, and local support. Forces are also closely monitoring routes frequently used by militants to travel between the Jammu region and the Kashmir Valley.

Operating in Kishtwar’s Dolgam and Chatru presents significant geographical difficulties, including dense forests, high altitudes, limited road access, and variable weather conditions. Despite these challenges, modern technology, such as drone surveillance, and enhanced troop deployment with real-time communication, are being utilized to ensure operational effectiveness and prevent terrorist escapes. White Knight Corps has affirmed that Operation Trashi-I is ongoing, with continuous monitoring of the situation.
