Holi Turns Tragic: Two Killed in Firing During Village Dispute in Ferozepur

Date:

Holi Celebrations Marred by Violence

Holi, known as the festival of colors and joy, turned tragic in a village of Punjab’s Ferozepur district when a dispute between two groups escalated into deadly violence. What began as a festive day for people celebrating with colors ended in shock and grief after gunfire claimed the lives of two individuals.

The incident took place in Kadma village of the Mamdot area. According to initial information, tensions had been simmering between two families due to a longstanding rivalry. On the day of Holi, the situation worsened after a minor altercation between children triggered a larger confrontation among the adults.

Minor Dispute Escalated Into Major Clash

Sources said the conflict started with an argument among children reportedly related to pigeon racing activities in the village. What initially seemed like a trivial disagreement soon spiraled into a heated argument between the families involved.

Villagers tried to intervene and calm both sides, but emotions were already running high. As the day progressed, elders from both groups decided to resolve the matter through a compromise meeting in the evening. However, instead of settling the dispute, the meeting reignited the tensions.

Gunfire During Compromise Meeting

During the compromise discussion between the two sides, tempers flared again and the situation quickly turned violent. In the midst of the heated argument, one man allegedly pulled out a firearm and opened fire on a member of the opposing group.

In a dramatic turn of events, another person from the rival side reportedly snatched the weapon and fired back. The exchange of gunfire resulted in the deaths of two men on the spot. The deceased have been identified as Khalara Singh and Jagi Singh.

The sudden violence created panic in the village as people rushed to the scene. Holi celebrations immediately stopped, and the festive atmosphere turned into one of chaos and mourning.

Police Reach the Scene, Investigation Underway

Soon after the incident was reported, police teams reached the village to take control of the situation. Senior police officials, including SSP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu, also arrived at the spot to assess the situation.

According to the police, the firing occurred due to a personal rivalry between the two groups. Authorities have begun a formal investigation to determine the exact sequence of events and identify those responsible for the violence.

Police officials stated that strict action will be taken against anyone found involved in the crime. Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination as part of the investigation process.

Community Shocked by the Incident

The tragic incident has shocked residents of the village and surrounding areas. Many locals expressed concern that a minor dispute turned deadly during a festival that symbolizes unity and happiness.

Authorities have appealed to people to maintain peace and avoid escalating disputes, especially during public celebrations. Security in the area has also been tightened to prevent further tensions between the groups.
