Famous Actress Varsha Usgaonkar Duped of ₹47 Lakh in Investment Fraud

Date:

Actress Varsha Usgaonkar Becomes Victim of Fraud

Veteran Indian actress Varsha Usgaonkar has reportedly become the victim of a major financial fraud involving nearly ₹47 lakh. The incident has shocked the entertainment industry and raised concerns about fraudulent investment schemes targeting celebrities and investors.

According to reports, the alleged fraud revolves around an investment opportunity linked to a construction project in the Mumbai metropolitan region. The accused reportedly presented himself as both a builder and film producer and convinced several people, including the actress, to invest money by promising high financial returns.

How the Fraud Allegedly Happened

Police officials revealed that the accused, identified as Avinash Jadhav, allegedly approached investors claiming he had real estate projects that would generate strong profits.

He reportedly persuaded investors to put money into a construction project located in Dombivli near Mumbai. The accused promised that the investors would receive high returns and that their principal investment would be returned within a year.

Between November 2019 and February 2020, the actress along with four other investors collectively invested around ₹47 lakh through bank transfers and cheques. Initially, the accused reportedly paid a small amount—around ₹4.52 lakh—as part of the promised returns. However, after that payment, the investors stopped receiving any money.

Victims Realize the Alleged Scam

As months passed, the victims reportedly tried to contact the accused to recover their money. However, he allegedly became unreachable and even changed his phone number and address, making communication difficult.

When repeated attempts to contact him failed, one of the victims, actress Mrinalini Subhash Jambhale, approached the police and filed a formal complaint. This complaint eventually led to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR).

Police Investigation Underway

Following the complaint, the Mumbai Police registered a case at the Shivaji Park Police Station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including cheating and criminal intimidation.

Authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the alleged fraud. Police are currently examining financial transactions and collecting statements from the victims to determine how the scheme was executed.

Officials believe that the accused used the promise of lucrative investment returns to gain the trust of investors and convince them to transfer large sums of money. Investigators are also checking whether more victims may be connected to the case.
