Pakistan–Afghanistan Conflict Escalates: Kabul Airstrikes Leave Hundreds Dead

Date:

The Rising Conflict

Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have intensified in recent weeks, leading to a dramatic escalation in military action. The crisis is part of the ongoing 2026 Afghanistan–Pakistan conflict, which has seen repeated cross-border strikes, accusations of harboring militants, and growing instability in the region.

Pakistan has long accused the Afghan Taliban government of providing safe haven to militant groups responsible for attacks inside Pakistan. Afghanistan, however, denies these allegations and says Islamabad’s military operations violate its sovereignty. The recent airstrike in Kabul marks one of the most serious incidents since the conflict escalated earlier this year.

Kabul Airstrike and Massive Casualties

According to Afghan officials and Taliban authorities, Pakistani fighter jets launched airstrikes late Monday night targeting locations in the Afghan capital, Kabul. One of the missiles reportedly hit a major drug rehabilitation hospital, causing catastrophic destruction.

Afghanistan claims that more than 400 people were killed and over 250 injured when the facility was struck. The hospital, which reportedly had space for around 2,000 patients, caught fire and partially collapsed after the explosions, trapping many people under the rubble. Rescue teams worked through the night to search for survivors.

Witnesses described scenes of chaos as thick smoke and flames engulfed the building. Patients, staff members, and civilians living nearby were among those affected by the blast, making it one of the deadliest attacks in Afghanistan in recent years.

Afghanistan Accuses Pakistan of Targeting Civilians

The Afghan government strongly condemned the attack, accusing Pakistan of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure. Officials called the strike a “crime against humanity” and demanded an international investigation into the incident.

Taliban leaders also criticized the attack and warned that Afghanistan would respond appropriately to what they described as a violation of the country’s sovereignty. The government has urged global organizations to intervene and prevent further escalation of the conflict.

Pakistan Denies Hitting a Hospital

Pakistan has rejected the allegations that its forces targeted a hospital or civilian areas. Pakistani authorities stated that the airstrikes were aimed solely at militant infrastructure and terrorist hideouts allegedly operating in Kabul and other parts of Afghanistan.

According to Pakistan’s military officials, the operation targeted facilities linked to militant groups accused of planning attacks inside Pakistan. Islamabad claims its strikes were precise and intended to neutralize security threats, not civilians.

International Concern and Calls for De-escalation

The deadly airstrike has triggered global concern over the growing conflict between the two neighboring countries. International organizations and foreign governments have called for restraint and urged both sides to avoid further military escalation.

Analysts warn that the crisis could destabilize the wider South Asian region if tensions continue to rise. With both sides accusing each other of aggression, diplomatic solutions remain uncertain while the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan continues to worsen.
