Security Tightened Around Halwara Air Base
Security has been intensified at the strategically important Halwara Air Force Station after recent IED blast incidents reported in Punjab’s Jalandhar and Amritsar regions. Police and intelligence agencies have increased surveillance in and around the air force station to prevent any possible threat.
According to reports, heavy police deployment has been made outside the air base. Senior officials from the Ludhiana Rural Police, including SSP Dr. Ankur Gupta, personally inspected the security arrangements late at night. Vehicles entering the area are being thoroughly checked, while security teams are conducting continuous patrols on highways and nearby roads.
Police and Intelligence Agencies on High Alert
Authorities have launched strict checking operations around Halwara town, Sudhar Bazaar, and nearby villages. Intelligence personnel in civil dress are also keeping a close watch on suspicious movements. Security vehicles equipped with sirens are continuously patrolling sensitive areas.
Officials stated that multiple police stations and checkpoints have joined the operation to ensure maximum vigilance. Residents and local panchayats have also been instructed to immediately report any suspicious activity to the police.
Strategic Importance of Halwara Air Force Station
Halwara Air Force Station is considered one of the Indian Air Force’s major frontline airbases. The station has played a significant role in previous Indo-Pak conflicts due to its strategic location in Punjab. The airbase currently houses advanced fighter aircraft and remains an important defense installation under the Indian Air Force’s Western Air Command.
The airbase already operates under a three-layer security system, making unauthorized access extremely difficult. However, due to the recent security concerns in Punjab, authorities have decided to strengthen external security arrangements as an additional precaution.
Previous Security Threats Raise Concern
Officials recalled that nearly a decade ago, an IED device was discovered in a Maruti car parked outside an auditorium within the Halwara air station area. The explosive was successfully defused in time, preventing a major incident.
Because of the station’s importance, police are now maintaining round-the-clock vigilance around highways, link roads, and nearby public places. Security agencies are also monitoring religious sites and crowded areas located close to the airbase.
Public Asked to Remain Vigilant
Authorities have appealed to local residents to cooperate with security agencies and share information regarding any suspicious individuals or activities. Officials said the increased security presence is purely precautionary and aimed at ensuring public safety as well as protecting critical defense infrastructure.
