DC Ludhiana Issues Notice to Municipal Corporation Over Road Damage

Date:

Canal-Based Water Supply Project Creates Trouble for Residents

A major controversy has emerged in Ludhiana after newly constructed roads were reportedly dug up again under the city’s canal-based water supply project. The issue has triggered public anger, with residents complaining about damaged roads, traffic disruption, dust, and inconvenience across several major localities. The matter became serious enough for the Deputy Commissioner of Ludhiana to intervene and issue a notice to the Municipal Corporation.

According to reports, the canal-based water supply project aims to provide round-the-clock water supply to city residents. Under the project, pipelines are being laid across different parts of the city, which requires road excavation work. However, residents allege that roads damaged during pipeline installation are not being repaired properly or on time.

Residents Facing Problems Due to Broken Roads

Several key areas of the city have reportedly been affected by the ongoing digging work. Localities such as Sarabha Nagar, Model Town, Dugri, Ghumar Mandi, Baddowal, and Pakhowal Road have witnessed damaged roads and incomplete repair work. Residents say commuting has become difficult due to uneven roads and construction debris.

People are especially upset because some roads that were recently repaired or newly constructed are again being prepared for excavation to install water supply pipelines. Citizens have questioned why authorities allowed fresh roads to be built before completing underground utility work.

Lack of Coordination Between Departments

The issue has also exposed a lack of coordination between different government departments. Reports suggest that the department responsible for road construction and the agency handling water pipeline installation failed to work together effectively. As a result, newly completed roads are being damaged again within a short period.

A similar incident had earlier surfaced in Sarabha Nagar, where a newly built road was dug up again soon after completion. At that time, no major action was reportedly taken, leading to criticism from residents and local groups.

Fresh Controversy Over Hambra Road Stretch

Another dispute has now emerged regarding the road stretch from Saggu Chowk to Hambra Road near Lions Club and Kitchlu Nagar. Residents had already faced delays in road construction for a long time, and now there are concerns that the same road may once again be dug up for laying water supply pipelines.

Sources indicate that officials were already aware that pipeline work would eventually take place on this road. Despite this, the road was constructed first, raising questions about planning and financial management.

DC Ludhiana Takes Strict Notice

Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana has now stepped into the matter and taken strict notice of the complaints. The DC reportedly stated that public money would not be wasted and citizens should not suffer because of repeated road digging.

The Municipal Corporation has been directed to ensure immediate repair of damaged roads and avoid situations where newly built roads are broken again. The notice issued to the civic body highlights the administration’s concern regarding poor coordination and inconvenience faced by the public.

The development has sparked fresh debate over urban planning and execution of infrastructure projects in the city. Residents are now hoping for better coordination among departments and faster repair work to restore normal traffic movement.
