Shah Rukh Khan Waives ₹42.45 Lakh Fee, Helps ‘Deool Band 2’ Reach Theatres and Become a Blockbuster

Date:

A Financial Crisis Before Release

Marathi filmmaker Pravin Tarde has revealed that Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan played a crucial role in helping his film Deool Band 2 reach theatres. According to Tarde, the film faced a major financial hurdle during its final stages when the team was unable to pay the cost required for the Digital Cinema Package (DCP), a necessary format for theatrical screenings.

The filmmakers had initially allocated around ₹12 lakh for the DCP process. However, the final bill generated by Red Chillies Entertainment reportedly reached approximately ₹42.45 lakh, creating a significant budget crisis for the production team.

The Makers Sought Help

Realizing that they could not arrange the required amount, the Deool Band 2 team approached Red Chillies Entertainment and explained their financial limitations. They emphasized that the project was a Marathi regional film with a limited budget but deserved a wide theatrical release.

The issue eventually reached Shah Rukh Khan, who reportedly asked his technical team for details about the film and its creators. Upon learning that the movie was made by the team behind Mulshi Pattern and that the DCP was ready but withheld due to unpaid dues, Khan took an immediate decision.

Shah Rukh Khan’s Generous Gesture

According to Tarde, Shah Rukh Khan instructed his team to waive the outstanding bill and release the DCP so the film could reach audiences. The filmmaker recalled that Khan prioritized the film over financial considerations and showed immense respect for Marathi cinema.

The gesture came at a time when no one knew whether the film would succeed commercially. Yet Khan chose to support the project without any guarantee of returns, allowing the film to proceed with its theatrical release.

A Massive Success Story

What followed was an extraordinary success story. Deool Band 2 went on to earn more than ₹80 crore at the box office, becoming one of the highest-grossing Marathi films of all time. The film’s strong emotional narrative and positive word-of-mouth helped it attract audiences across Maharashtra and beyond.

Pravin Tarde expressed deep gratitude toward Shah Rukh Khan, stating that the superstar’s support arrived when the film was struggling and its future remained uncertain. The director said that such generosity would always be remembered and credited Khan for helping make the film’s success possible.

Recognition Beyond Box Office Numbers

The story has resonated strongly with cinema lovers because it highlights an often-unseen side of the film industry—where established stars support smaller regional productions. Shah Rukh Khan’s decision not only helped a film reach theatres but also contributed to a major success for Marathi cinema.
