Bihar Government Honors Two Indian Cricketers
The Bihar Government has recommended direct appointments of Indian cricketers Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep to the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) under the state’s sports quota policy. The recommendation has been made under the Bihar Outstanding Players Direct Appointment (Amendment) Rules, 2026, recognizing their achievements in international cricket.
Selection Committee Approves the Proposal
According to official sources, Bihar’s General Administration Department has forwarded the proposal to the Home Department after receiving approval from the selection committee. The move is intended to reward athletes who have brought pride to the state and the nation through exceptional sporting performances.
Achievements Behind the Recognition
Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep have both represented India on the international stage and have played significant roles in the country’s cricketing success.
Mukesh Kumar was part of the Indian cricket team that won the gold medal at the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China. His consistent performances for India across formats and in domestic cricket have earned him widespread recognition.
Akash Deep was also associated with India’s successful cricket campaigns and has represented the national team in Test cricket. His performances in international matches, including the England Test series, helped strengthen his case for the prestigious appointment.
Salary and Benefits of the DSP Post
If the appointments are finalized, both players will be inducted into the Bihar Police as DSPs. The position carries a pay scale of ₹9,300–34,800 with a Grade Pay of ₹5,400 and benefits under Pay Level-9. They will also be entitled to additional allowances and benefits as prescribed by the Bihar Government from time to time.
Conditions Attached to the Appointment
The appointments will initially remain provisional for six months, subject to verification of character and antecedents. Once all verification procedures are successfully completed, the appointments will be confirmed.
Additionally, the players will be required to sign a bond committing to remain active in sports competitions for the next five years from the date of joining. Failure to meet this condition may affect the permanency of their service.
Verification of Documents and Residency
The Bihar State Sports Authority has already verified their sports credentials. However, educational, residential, and sports-related documents will undergo further scrutiny. Any discrepancy or false information could result in cancellation of the appointment. Permanent residency in Bihar is also a mandatory requirement under the sports quota rules.
A Proud Moment for Bihar Sports
The recommendation reflects Bihar’s commitment to encouraging sporting excellence and recognizing athletes who have represented India with distinction. If approved, Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep will not only continue inspiring aspiring cricketers but will also serve the state in a significant administrative role.
