Directed by Adesh Prasad and produced under the banner of Sohum Shah Films in association with Pen Studios, Tumbbad 2 is scheduled to make its highly anticipated theatrical debut on December 3, 2027. According to industry reports, the film is being produced with a massive budget of approximately ₹100 crore, making it one of the most expensive horror-fantasy films in Indian cinema.
To bring the damp, historical, and eerie atmosphere back to life, the production team has constructed a massive 7-to-8-acre set in Mumbai, painstakingly recreating an entire city for the first shooting schedule. Rather than relying heavily on generic studio green screens, the crew is going to great lengths to capture authentic visuals, even tracking monsoon and rain patterns across Maharashtra to capture natural downpours, honoring the rain-soaked aesthetic of the first film.
Reports suggest that Alia Bhatt will play a highly crucial role that brings a major twist to the narrative. While her screen time in Tumbbad 2 is rumored to be an extended pivotal appearance, it is expected to set up a massive storyline that will place her at the center of the planned Tumbbad 3, as the franchise transitions into a full-fledged cinematic trilogy centered around the cursed gold of Hastar.
