Veteran Cinema Icon Passes Away Following Hospitalisation
South Indian cinema has lost one of its most revered stalwarts. Legendary actress Sowcar Janaki passed away on Friday, August 21, at the age of 94. She breathed her last at 1:59 PM after suffering from age-related health issues and subsequent medical complications. The confirmation of her passing came directly from Nassar, president of the South Indian Artistes’ Association (Nadigar Sangam). Her mortal remains were arranged to be kept at her residence on Cenotaph Road in Teynampet, Chennai, from 5:00 PM onwards for public tribute, allowing fans, colleagues, and prominent figures from the film fraternity to pay their last respects.
Intensive Medical Treatment at Chennai Hospital
Prior to her demise, the veteran artist was undergoing treatment at Kauvery Hospital in Chennai’s Alwarpet area. Actor Kayal Devaraj had shared details on social media on August 19, informing the public that Sowcar Janaki was admitted due to deteriorating health and was under intensive medical care. Representatives of the South Indian Artistes’ Association, led by Nassar alongside actors Soundararaja and Hemachandran, personally visited the hospital to review her health condition and offer support to her family during her final days.

Sowcar Janaki’s passing marks the conclusion of a monumental career spanning several decades across Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi cinema.
