Tata Motors Rebrands Tigor Sedan as All-New Tata Aeris
Tata Motors is gearing up to shake up the Indian sub-compact sedan market with the upcoming launch of the Tata Aeris, set to officially arrive on September 25, 2026. Rather than offering a minor facelift for the aging Tigor, the homegrown automaker has registered the “TATA AERIS” trademark to give its compact sedan a completely fresh identity. By retiring the Tigor nameplate in favor of Aeris, Tata Motors aims to mount a direct challenge against established category leaders like the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Aura, and Honda Amaze.
Revamped Design and Modern Tech Upgrades
The Tata Aeris showcases a major visual overhaul aligned with Tata’s modern design philosophy. Upfront, the sedan features a redesigned grille, sleek LED reflector headlamps, integrated LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), and revised LED fog lamps. At the rear, the Aeris gets connected LED taillights and a sculpted bumper that gives it a sporty road presence. On the inside, the cabin undergoes a digital transformation with a modern dual-screen setup—including a large touchscreen infotainment system and a fully digital driver display—along with premium upholstery, automatic climate control, and fresh exterior color options such as Supernova Copper, Meteor Bronze, and Arizona Blue.
Versatile Engine and CNG Automatic Powertrain
Under the hood, the Tata Aeris will be powered by a refined 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated Revotron petrol engine delivering around 84 bhp and 113 Nm of torque. Buyers can choose between a 5-speed manual transmission and an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). Significantly, Tata will offer its acclaimed twin-cylinder iCNG technology on the Aeris, paired with both manual and AMT options. The CNG automatic variant offers commuters the ultimate blend of high fuel efficiency, low running costs, and clutch-free urban driving convenience, while retaining usable boot space.
Strategic Market Positioning and Expected Pricing
With compact sedan buyers demanding higher safety, better connectivity, and premium styling, the Tata Aeris is positioned to attract private car buyers as well as fleet operators. Expected to be priced between Rs 5.49 lakh and Rs 8.83 lakh (ex-showroom), the Aeris offers a highly competitive price point alongside Tata’s 5-star safety legacy. An all-electric Tata Aeris EV is also anticipated in the near future, further solidifying Tata’s EV dominance in India.
