Food safety teams conduct inspections across the district, seize substandard food and take action against violations
Ferozepur, September 23, 2026: The Food Safety Wing has intensified its inspection and sampling drive across Ferozepur district, conducting checks at multiple locations and initiating legal action wherever violations were found.
During an early-morning inspection at the vegetable market on Rakhri Road near Shivala Temple on September 22, officials collected four food samples, including papaya, bananas, chaap and frozen chickpeas. Around 30 kg of rotten and substandard papaya, deemed unfit for human consumption, was identified and separated for disposal according to prescribed rules.
Officials also found traders operating without the required Food Safety registration. They were directed to obtain the necessary licence or registration to comply with food safety regulations.
₹1.50 Lakh Fine Recovered
In a separate departmental action, the Food Safety Wing recovered a pending fine of ₹1.50 lakh from NFC Fast Food in Ferozepur City on September 22.
The recovery followed continued departmental follow-up in connection with the pending penalty.
140 Kg Paneer Declared Unsafe
Meanwhile, a Food Analyst’s report has declared a paneer sample collected during an earlier inspection at Makhu as “unsafe” for human consumption.
Approximately 140 kg of suspected paneer had earlier been sealed and kept at Makhu while authorities awaited the laboratory report. Following the analyst’s findings, the food product was confirmed as unsafe, preventing its sale or consumption.
Further Legal Action
The department said further legal action would be taken under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and applicable rules wherever violations are established.
The Food Safety Wing has also appealed to consumers to purchase food products only from licensed or registered food business operators. Consumers have been advised to report suspected unsafe or substandard food products to the Food Safety Department.
The intensified inspection drive is aimed at ensuring compliance with food safety regulations and preventing unsafe or substandard food products from reaching consumers in the district.
