Former AIG Rachhpal Singh Arrested in Fake Heroin Case, Sent to 3-Day Police Remand

Ex-AIG Arrested by STF Jalandhar

The Special Task Force (STF), Jalandhar, has arrested former AIG Rachhpal Singh from Beas in connection with a fake heroin case. He was produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate Supreet Kaur’s court on Tuesday, which sent him to three-day police remand.

Accused of Framing Man in Fake Drug Case

Rachhpal Singh, along with nine other police officials, has been accused of falsely implicating a man named Balwinder Singh in a 2017 heroin case, allegedly involving one kilogram of heroin.

In 2019, Rachhpal Singh had filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court challenging the case. The court had ordered ADGP Pramod Ban to investigate the matter, and the probe reportedly revealed major irregularities.

Case Registered Against 10 Police Officials

Following the ADGP’s findings, an FIR was registered at Civil Lines Police Station against ten individuals, including Inspector Sukhwinder Singh, SI Paramjit Singh, SI Balwinder Singh, and SI Surjit Singh. One of the accused, retired Inspector Sukhwinder Singh, has since passed away.

Previous Corruption Allegations

Rachhpal Singh, who retired as AIG in 2024, has also faced earlier allegations of bribery in a 195 kg heroin recovery case. Reports claimed that he and his team detained several suspects and released them after allegedly taking money.
