Understanding the PM SVANidhi Scheme
The Pradhan Mantri Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme, launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, has emerged as a monumental financial lifeline for urban and peri-urban street vendors, hawkers, and small business owners across India. Designed to support livelihoods impacted by economic challenges, the scheme provides collateral-free working capital loans and promotes digital financial inclusion. Over the years, the initiative has progressively expanded its scope, offering tiered financial benefits to help micro-entrepreneurs rebuild, grow, and formalize their businesses without falling into informal debt traps.
Progressive Loan Tranches and Structure
One of the most remarkable features of the PM SVANidhi scheme is its progressive loan structure, which rewards disciplined repayment behavior. Eligible vendors can access working capital loans in three structured phases. In the first tranche, vendors can secure up to ₹15,000. Upon timely repayment of this initial amount, they qualify for a second tranche of up to ₹25,000. Finally, successful repayment of the second loan opens access to the third tranche of up to ₹50,000. Each level is entirely collateral-free, featuring simplified digital application processes and attractive interest subsidies.
Eligibility for the Rs 30,000 UPI-Linked RuPay Credit Card
Beyond standard working capital loans, the scheme offers advanced financial privileges to consistent performers. Street vendors who successfully repay their second loan tranche become eligible for a UPI-linked RuPay Credit Card carrying an initial credit limit of up to ₹30,000. This digital credit card tool is designed to integrate micro-vendors into formal banking channels, empowering them to manage wholesale inventory purchases, handle digital transactions seamlessly, and build robust credit histories.
Eligibility Criteria and Application Process
To qualify for these benefits, applicants must be recognized street vendors holding a Certificate of Vending (CoIn) or identity card issued by Urban Local Bodies (ULBs). Vendors possessing a verified Letter of Recommendation (LoR) or those operating within expanded municipal and Census Town limits are also eligible. Interested applicants can apply directly through the official PM SVANidhi web portal using Aadhaar-linked mobile authentication, Common Service Centres (CSCs), or partner banks, ensuring transparent and quick digital disbursements.
