Amarnath Yatra 2026: Record 8,815 Pilgrims Leave Jammu Base Camp in Largest Single-Day Batch

Date:

Unprecedented Turnout at Bhagwati Nagar Base Camp

The ongoing annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra witnessed its biggest single-day surge of the season as a record-breaking sixth batch of 8,815 pilgrims departed from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu on Tuesday morning. Immersed in absolute spiritual fervor, the base camp echoed with high-energy chants of “Bam Bam Bhole”, “Har Har Mahadev”, and “Jai Barfani Baba Ki” as the massive convoy set off under highly coordinated, multi-layered security arrangements.

This latest departure marks the highest daily movement of devotees since the 57-day long pilgrimage officially commenced on July 2, 2026. The previous single-day high was recorded on Sunday when 6,721 pilgrims left the base camp, followed by 5,794 devotees on Monday. Tuesday’s departure brings the cumulative number of pilgrims leaving the Jammu base camp for the Kashmir valley to 34,829.

Route Breakdown and Strategic Convoy Details

To ensure optimal traffic management and smooth transit through the high-altitude terrain, the administrative authorities split the massive convoy of 363 vehicles into two distinct transit groups targeting the twin base camps in Kashmir.

The first group, consisting of 3,989 pilgrims traveling in 181 light and heavy motor vehicles, departed early at 3:35 AM for the Baltal base camp in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district. The second and larger group, comprising 4,826 devotees in 182 vehicles, began their journey at 4:08 AM heading towards the traditional Pahalgam route in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The entire motor fleet included 172 standard buses, 58 medium motor vehicles (MMVs), 130 light motor vehicles (LMVs), and three two-wheelers, all operating under a heavily armed security escort.

Demographic Diversity and Global Participation

The demographic breakdown of the sixth batch highlights the vast and diverse appeal of the Amarnath Yatra. According to official records, Tuesday’s batch included 5,831 men, 2,193 women, and 31 children. Reflecting the widespread traditional reverence of the event, the convoy also included 598 sadhus and 131 sadhvis.

Notably, international interest in the Himalayan pilgrimage remains strong, with 31 foreign nationals successfully registering and joining the convoy from Jammu. Pilgrims setting out expressed immense satisfaction with the comprehensive civic, medical, and transit arrangements established by the civil administration, local police forces, and the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB).

Total Footfall Nears One-Lakh Mark within Days

As the sixth batch moves toward the cave shrine, total numbers are skyrocketing. More than 93,000 pilgrims offered prayers at the 3,880-metre-high cave shrine in the south Himalayas within the first four days of the pilgrimage alone. Officials confirmed that the total footfall is steadily on track to pass the milestone one-lakh mark later in the day. The naturally formed ice stalagmite, revered by millions as the holy Shivling, continues to attract an unprecedented influx of devotees.

Important Advisory for Unregistered Pilgrims

In light of the massive, unprecedented rush at the base camps, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has issued a critical travel advisory urging unregistered devotees to defer their travel plans. Due to the intense surge in demand, all official registration slots are completely booked until July 9, 2026.

Security authorities have reinforced that only pilgrims possessing a valid, confirmed registration token matching their scheduled travel dates will be allowed to cross the designated transit checkpoints toward Kashmir. Unregistered travelers will be stopped at security gates until fresh registration quotas are released. The 57-day long holy pilgrimage is scheduled to officially conclude on August 28, 2026, coinciding with the festival of Raksha Bandhan.
