Bareilly on High Alert: Internet Shutdown Ahead of Friday Prayers

Date:

Internet, Broadband, and SMS Services Suspended for 48 Hours

The Bareilly administration in Uttar Pradesh has ordered a complete suspension of internet, broadband, and SMS services for the next 48 hours. This strict measure has been taken as a precautionary step to maintain peace and law and order during Friday prayers.

Security Tightened Amid ‘I Love Mohammad’ Controversy

Following the recent “I Love Mohammad” controversy, security arrangements across Bareilly have been significantly tightened. Large deployments of police forces have been made at mosques, key intersections, and mixed-population localities. Intelligence agencies have also been placed on high alert.

Heavy Police, PAC, and RAF Deployment

To prevent any untoward incident, heavy police presence has been ensured in sensitive areas. Personnel from the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and Rapid Action Force (RAF) have been deployed. Drone surveillance is being conducted to monitor large gatherings and movements.

Last Week’s Violence Still Fresh in Memory

Just last Friday, after the Jumma prayers, over 2,000 people gathered outside a mosque in the Kotwali area. The situation escalated into stone-pelting and a subsequent lathi-charge, leaving several people—including police officers—injured.

Preventing Rumors and Social Media Misuse

Officials stated that social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, and YouTube could potentially be misused to spread rumors and provoke communal tension. To curb this risk, the internet suspension will remain effective from October 2 at 3 PM until October 4 at 3 PM.
