Sudden Fire Sparks Panic on Busy Airport Road
Panic gripped commuters on the road connecting New Chandigarh to Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport when a moving luxury BMW car suddenly caught fire. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon around 2:45 PM, a time when the stretch usually witnesses heavy traffic.
Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle was moving normally before sparks were seen emerging from its engine. Within moments, thick smoke began billowing out, alarming nearby commuters and pedestrians.
Explosion-Like Sounds Heard Moments Later
As the fire intensified, loud explosion-like sounds were heard, creating chaos in the area. Locals initially feared a major blast due to the intensity of the noise. However, preliminary findings suggest that the sounds were caused by the car’s internal components bursting due to extreme heat.
The vehicle was quickly engulfed in flames, turning into a fireball within minutes.
Driver Escapes Safely, No Casualties Reported
In a narrow escape, the driver managed to jump out of the car just in time, avoiding serious injury. Authorities confirmed that no casualties have been reported in the incident.
The driver reportedly fled the scene shortly after escaping, leaving behind the burning vehicle.
Fire Brigade Responds, Vehicle Reduced to Ashes
Fire brigade teams rushed to the spot after receiving alerts from passersby. However, by the time they arrived, the luxury car had already been completely gutted.
The blaze was eventually brought under control, but the vehicle was reduced to ashes. Traffic movement on the busy stretch was temporarily disrupted as officials cleared the area.
Investigation Underway to Determine Cause
Police and fire department officials have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire. Initial suspicion points towards a possible engine malfunction or short circuit, but no official confirmation has been made yet.
Authorities are also trying to trace the driver and verify vehicle ownership details as part of the probe.
