China Says US-Israel Strikes on Iran Violate International Law, Calls for Immediate Halt

Date:

Beijing, China

China has strongly condemned the recent military strikes launched by the United States and Israel against Iran, calling the actions a blatant violation of international law and demanding an immediate halt to hostilities.

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in an official statement that the joint US-Israeli strikes — which included attacks on Iranian military infrastructure and leadership targets — undermine the fundamental principles of state sovereignty and international norms. These military operations have ignited widespread concern globally over regional stability and the safety of civilians.

Strong Condemnation from Beijing

According to China’s foreign ministry, the strikes violate the United Nations Charter and basic norms governing international relations. China emphasized that attacks on Iran’s territory without clear justification erode trust and escalate tensions. Beijing also stressed that military coercion should never replace diplomacy in settling international disputes.

China’s statement underscored the importance of respecting Iran’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity, a principle it says must be upheld for peace and stability in the region. The ministry reiterated that the use of force cannot lead to lasting solutions and that diplomatic channels must be prioritized.

Call for Immediate Ceasefire and Dialogues

China urged all parties involved to immediately cease military operations to prevent further escalation. The foreign ministry called for the resumption of dialogue and negotiations aimed at de-escalating the conflict and restoring peace. This position echoes broader global concerns over the impact of escalating violence in the Middle East.

Global Reactions and Broader Context

The strikes against Iran, which began recently, have triggered significant international reactions. Other major powers like Russia and several European nations have also condemned the military action or urged restraint. Emergency meetings at the United Nations Security Council have been convened to address the widening conflict and to seek diplomatic solutions.

Concerns include the potential for broader regional instability, risks to global energy markets, and increased danger to civilians caught in crossfire. Many countries are calling for respect for international law and the protection of non-combatants amid ongoing tensions.
