Election Commission Announces Bypolls for Eight Assembly Seats Across Seven States and UTs

Voting on November 11, Results on November 14

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday, October 6, 2025, announced the schedule for bypolls to eight assembly constituencies across seven states and one Union Territory, including Jammu and Kashmir.
Voting for all these seats will take place on November 11, 2025, and the counting of votes and results will be declared on November 14, 2025.

Reason Behind the Bypolls

The need for these by-elections has arisen due to various reasons — resignations, deaths, or disqualifications of sitting members.
With the announcement of the election schedule, political activity has intensified in the affected regions, and the Model Code of Conduct has come into immediate effect.

Seats Going to Bypolls

Jammu and Kashmir (2 Seats)

  • 27-Budgam: Vacant following the resignation of Omar Abdullah.

  • 77-Nagrota: Bypoll to be held after the death of Devender Singh Rana.

Rajasthan (1 Seat)

  • 193-Anta: Vacated due to the disqualification of Kanwarlal.

Jharkhand (1 Seat)

  • 45-Ghatshila (ST): Vacant after the death of Ramdas Soren.

Telangana (1 Seat)

  • 61-Jubilee Hills: Bypoll necessitated by the demise of Maganti Gopinath.

Punjab (1 Seat)

  • 21-Tarn Taran: Vacant following the death of Dr. Kashmir Singh Sohal.

Mizoram (1 Seat)

  • 2-Dampa (ST): Seat vacated due to the death of Lalrintluanga Sailo.

Odisha (1 Seat)

  • 71-Nuapada: Vacant after the death of Rajendra Dholakia.

Nomination and Withdrawal Schedule

The Election Commission has released detailed timelines for filing and withdrawal of nominations:

  • Gazette Notification: October 13, 2025

  • Last Date for Filing Nominations:

    • Jammu & Kashmir, Odisha: October 20, 2025

    • Jharkhand, Mizoram, Punjab, Telangana, Rajasthan: October 21, 2025

  • Last Date for Withdrawal of Candidature:

    • Jharkhand, Mizoram, Punjab, Telangana: October 24, 2025

    • Rajasthan (Anta): October 27, 2025
