Raymond Chairman Gautam Singhania Injured After Speedboat Capsizes in Maldives, Two Indians Missing

Date:

Speedboat Accident in Maldives

Gautam Singhania, the chairman and managing director of Raymond Group, was injured after a speedboat carrying several tourists capsized in the Maldives. The accident reportedly took place early Friday morning near the island of Felidhoo, a popular destination in the Vaavu Atoll region known for its scenic lagoons and water-sports activities.

The boat was carrying seven people at the time of the accident, including Indian nationals as well as tourists from the United Kingdom and Russia. According to reports, the vessel suddenly overturned in rough sea conditions, throwing several passengers into the water. Authorities immediately launched rescue operations after receiving information about the mishap.

Singhania Sustains Minor Injuries

Following the incident, Singhania was rescued by local authorities and taken for medical evaluation. His spokesperson later confirmed that he suffered minor injuries and is currently recovering in Mumbai after receiving medical attention.

In a statement issued by his team, the spokesperson said that Singhania is stable and under proper medical care. The statement also thanked people for their wishes and prayers following the accident. Despite the scare, doctors have reportedly assured that his injuries are not serious.

Singhania, who is known for leading Raymond Group’s transformation and expansion in the Indian textile and fashion industry, had reportedly been on a leisure trip to the Maldives with friends when the incident occurred.

Two Indians Still Missing

While Singhania and several others were rescued, concerns remain for two Indian nationals who are still missing after the accident. Among those feared missing is renowned Indian rally driver Hari Singh. Authorities have not yet officially confirmed the identities of all missing passengers, but reports suggest search teams are actively looking for them.

The Maldives National Defence Force Coast Guard has deployed rescue teams to the area where the accident occurred, which is located roughly two nautical miles southwest of Keyodhoo island. Search and rescue teams are scanning the sea for survivors despite difficult conditions.

Officials said that five passengers were reportedly swept into the sea when the speedboat overturned, including four Indian men and a Russian woman. Some were rescued quickly, but two individuals remain unaccounted for.

Investigation and Ongoing Search

Authorities in the Maldives are continuing search and rescue operations while also investigating the cause of the accident. Early reports suggest the speedboat may have lost balance due to strong waves or sudden maneuvering, though officials have not yet released an official explanation.

The incident has drawn attention in India due to the high-profile individuals involved and the uncertainty surrounding the missing passengers. Family members and friends of those missing are anxiously waiting for updates as rescue teams continue their efforts.

Meanwhile, Singhania’s team has confirmed that he is recovering well and has expressed hope that the missing passengers will be found soon.ccident in Maldives
