MUKTSAR / CHANDIGARH: In a major development today, the Punjab Police have arrested the parents of notorious gangster Goldy Brar in connection with a 2024 extortion case. The arrests took place in the Muktsar district of Punjab as part of a massive ongoing crackdown against the networks of foreign-based gangsters.
The Arrest Details Muktsar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Abhimanyu Rana confirmed that Goldy Brar’s father, Shamsher Singh, and his mother, Preetpal Kaur, were taken into custody. The duo was apprehended from their residence in the Adesh Nagar area of Muktsar. Although the family originally hails from Faridkot, they had been residing in Muktsar.
The arrest follows an FIR registered in 2024 based on a complaint by a local resident regarding extortion threats.
Who is Goldy Brar? Satinderjeet Singh, alias Goldy Brar, is a high-profile gangster and one of the primary accused in the 2022 murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. Brar, who is currently believed to be hiding in the United States, was recently designated as a “terrorist” by the Indian government under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). He is known for his involvement in smuggling high-grade weaponry and explosives via drones from across the border.
Punjab Police’s Wider Crackdown This action is part of a broader strategy by the Punjab Police to dismantle the support systems of gangsters operating from abroad. Authorities have reportedly mapped out over 1,200 associates and 600 family members linked to 60 foreign-based criminals who are suspected of aiding or benefiting from criminal activities like extortion.
