Chandigarh, September 16, 2026: The Gulzar Singh suicide case has reached the Punjab and Haryana High Court, with a petition seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the matter.

According to a report by Babushahi Network, the petition was listed before the High Court on Wednesday, with a bench led by Chief Justice Ashish Kumar Mishra scheduled to hear the matter. 

Petition seeks CBI investigation

The petition seeks the transfer of the investigation into the Gulzar Singh suicide case to the CBI.

The development brings the case before the Punjab and Haryana High Court as the circumstances surrounding Gulzar Singh’s death are now the subject of proceedings before the court.

The specific grounds cited in the petition and the detailed allegations made by the petitioner will be considered during the judicial proceedings.

High Court hearing scheduled

The matter was scheduled to come up before the Chief Justice Ashish Kumar Mishra-led bench on September 16, according to the Babushahi report. 

The Gulzar Singh case has also featured in Punjab’s political debate. Babushahi’s current-news listings show that a Punjab Congress protest related to the case was held in Chandigarh on September 15, with demands concerning the state government’s handling of the matter.
