For Hepatitis B, the primary routes of exposure include unsafe sexual contact, sharing unsterilized needles, receiving unscreened blood transfusions, or perinatal transmission from an infected mother to her newborn during childbirth. Hepatitis C, on the other hand, is predominantly spread through direct exposure to infected blood, most commonly via shared drug injection equipment, unsterilized tattooing instruments, or healthcare-associated needle-stick injuries.

A major challenge in combating viral hepatitis is its silent progression. In the early stages, both Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C frequently present with no symptoms at all, allowing the infection to quietly damage liver tissue over several years or even decades. Hepatitis B is entirely preventable through a highly effective, safe, and widely available vaccine. Medical guidelines strongly recommend routine Hepatitis B vaccination for all infants, healthcare personnel, and individuals at heightened risk. While chronic Hepatitis B cannot be completely cured, modern antiviral medications can effectively suppress viral replication, slow disease progression, and safeguard liver health.
In contrast, there is currently no preventative vaccine available for Hepatitis C. However, medical science has achieved a monumental breakthrough with the development of Direct-Acting Antiviral (DAA) medications. Today, a 8-to-12-week oral course of DAAs boasts a cure rate exceeding 95% for Hepatitis C, making complete viral eradication an achievable reality. Preventive measures for both conditions center on practicing safe sex, ensuring all blood products are screened, avoiding the sharing of personal hygiene items like razors, and maintaining strict hygiene standards in tattoo parlors and medical settings.
