Heavy Rain Alert Issued for Multiple Districts Across Himachal Pradesh

Date:

The Meteorological Centre in Shimla has issued a fresh weather alert warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and potential flash floods across several districts of Himachal Pradesh. With the ongoing monsoon season producing intense spells of downpours, authorities have urged residents and tourists to exercise extreme caution near riverbanks and landslide-prone hill slopes. The persistent rainfall continues to disrupt normal life, affecting road infrastructure, power supply, and local transit routes across the hill state.

IMD Forecast and Key Affected Districts

According to the latest bulletin from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated in key regions including Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Bilaspur, and Hamirpur. Yellow and Orange alerts have been sounded depending on the severity projected for specific zones. The weather department anticipates that low-lying areas could face localized urban flooding, while upper reaches remain susceptible to sudden mudslides and debris flow.

Impact on Infrastructure, Roads, and Essential Services

The intense rainfall activity has led to widespread disruption of essential services across Himachal Pradesh. Major highways and hundreds of link roads have experienced closures due to falling rocks, landslips, and soil erosion. Public works departments and highway maintenance crews have been deployed with heavy machinery to clear debris, though continuous downpours pose significant hazards to restoration work. In addition to road blockades, several rural power transformers and water supply schemes have faced operational disruptions.

Government Guidelines and Safety Measures for Citizens

In response to the deteriorating weather conditions, the state disaster management authority and local administrations have issued strict advisories for both residents and visitors. Travelers are strongly advised to check real-time traffic updates before embarking on journeys into hilly terrains. Local citizens have been warned against venturing near swollen rivers, streams, and seasonal rivulets. District administrations remain on high alert, with emergency response teams positioned to handle potential landslips, flash floods, or rescue operations.
