T.S. Central State Library engages students in promoting Hindi language, literature and traditional storytelling
Chandigarh, September 14, 2026: The T.S. Central State Library, Chandigarh, organised a special programme at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Village Sarangpur, to mark Hindi Diwas, with a focus on encouraging reading habits, promoting Hindi literature and connecting young students with India’s rich storytelling traditions.
The programme aimed to develop a love for the Hindi language among students while highlighting the importance of books, libraries and traditional forms of storytelling.
Students Encouraged to Develop Reading Habits
Dr. Neeza Singh, Librarian at T.S. Central State Library, interacted with students during the programme and spoke about the importance of Hindi as a language that connects people and reflects India’s diverse cultural heritage.
She encouraged students to develop regular reading habits and make libraries an important part of their daily lives. She said libraries provide opportunities for knowledge, imagination and lifelong learning.
Traditional Kavad Storytelling Becomes Highlight
One of the major attractions of the celebration was a special storytelling session based on Kavad, a traditional Rajasthani storytelling art.
The session was conducted by Subhasis Neogi from Puppet Theatre, who introduced students to the traditional storytelling format using a beautifully crafted Kavad.
The interactive presentation generated considerable enthusiasm among the students and gave them an opportunity to experience an important part of India’s oral storytelling heritage in an engaging manner.
Students Showcase Hindi Talent
The celebration also provided students with an opportunity to showcase their interest and talent in Hindi.
Several students enthusiastically recited poems and narrated stories in Hindi, adding creativity and energy to the programme.
To further encourage students to read and develop an appreciation for literature, participating students were also presented with book prizes.

Mrs. Veena Kumari, Principal of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sarangpur, expressed her gratitude to the T.S. Central State Library for organising the programme.
She appreciated the library’s efforts to promote Hindi language and literature among young readers and for bringing educational and cultural activities directly to students.
Taking Libraries Beyond Their Premises
The Hindi Diwas programme highlighted the T.S. Central State Library’s efforts to take library activities beyond its physical premises and into schools and communities.
Through such initiatives, the library aims to encourage a culture of reading and learning among young people while introducing them to India’s diverse literary and cultural traditions.
The event concluded with a renewed appreciation for Hindi, literature and storytelling, while reinforcing the role of language in connecting generations and preserving cultural heritage.
