German Chancellor Merz Arrives in Ahmedabad, Joins PM Modi at Kite Festival

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz commenced his first visit to India with an arrival in Ahmedabad on Sunday night. The Chancellor was welcomed at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.

During his visit, Chancellor Merz met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Their engagement included a tour of the Sabarmati Ashram, followed by their attendance at the International Kite Festival.

Diplomatic Engagements and Kite Flying

Both leaders participated actively in the International Kite Festival held at the Sabarmati Riverfront, where Chancellor Merz was seen flying a kite. This engagement underscores the ongoing efforts to strengthen strategic, economic, and security cooperation between India and Germany.

Future Discussions and Partnership

Formal discussions between delegations from both nations are scheduled to begin on Monday morning at 11:15 AM at Mahatma Mandir. These meetings will focus on reviewing the 25-year progress of the India-Germany strategic partnership.

Key areas for discussion include trade, investment, new technologies, education, and defense and security cooperation. Further topics will encompass science, research, innovation, green growth initiatives, and fostering stronger people-to-people connections. Chancellor Merz’s visit comes ahead of the India-European Union summit slated for January 27, highlighting Germany’s role as a crucial partner for India within the EU in sectors like manufacturing, clean energy, and defense.
