Mahindra Expands Sub-4 Meter SUV Lineup With Factory-Fitted CNG Option
Mahindra & Mahindra has officially expanded its sub-4 meter SUV portfolio in India with the launch of the new Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG (officially badged as the XUV 3XO ZNG). Starting at an introductory ex-showroom price of Rs 9.99 lakh, the factory-fitted CNG SUV arrives in four distinct trim levels: MX Edge, RevX Edge (O), AX5, and the top-spec RevX A priced at Rs 12.27 lakh. Bookings and customer deliveries for the new bi-fuel variant are scheduled to commence nationwide on October 20, 2026.
This new launch positions the XUV 3XO as one of the most versatile compact SUVs in the Indian automobile market, offering buyers four propulsion options—turbo-petrol, diesel, electric, and now CNG. The addition directly targets eco-conscious and efficiency-driven buyers seeking lower daily running costs without compromising on engine performance or premium features.
Segment-Best Turbocharged Power Output and Dual-Cylinder Technology
At the heart of the new XUV 3XO CNG is a 1.2-litre mStallion TCMPFi turbocharged petrol engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. Unlike conventional CNG vehicles that suffer a noticeable drop in power when switching fuel modes, Mahindra has re-calibrated the turbocharger and ECU mapping to deliver an impressive 113 hp of power and 200 Nm of peak torque in both petrol and CNG modes. Utilizing an advanced 10-bar CNG injection system, the powertrain achieves a claimed fuel efficiency rating of 24.70 km/kg.
To resolve the luggage space limitation typical of traditional CNG installations, Mahindra has incorporated innovative twin-cylinder technology underneath the rear boot floor. This under-floor dual-cylinder setup maintains a flat floor layout and preserves 270 liters of usable boot capacity. The vehicle also features an automatic fuel-switching mechanism that seamlessly transitions the engine to petrol mode when gas levels run low, alongside a 0 to 100 kmph acceleration time of 11.8 seconds.
Feature-Packed Cabin, Advanced Safety Systems, and Market Competition
The interior of the XUV 3XO CNG retains the feature-loaded layout of its standard petrol and diesel counterparts. Key highlights include twin 10.25-inch screens for infotainment and the digital driver display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a panoramic sunroof, leatherette seating, Dolby Atmos audio setup, and three distinct steering modes—Normal, Comfort, and Sport.
Safety equipment includes six airbags as standard, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), ABS with EBD, disc brakes on all four wheels, ISOFIX child seat mounts, a 360-degree camera system, and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). Additionally, the CNG model comes fitted with an integrated gas-leak detection system that automatically shuts off gas supply and switches to petrol if a leak is detected. The XUV 3XO CNG enters a competitive sub-compact SUV market to take on established rivals like the Tata Nexon iCNG and Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG.
