Ludhiana Takes a Big Step to Clear Seized Vehicles from Roads
For years, the streets of Ludhiana have been cluttered with seized vehicles left near police stations and public roads, creating traffic problems, environmental issues, and general disorder. This longstanding public nuisance — with vehicles rusting and turning into unwanted junk — finally has a permanent solution after local authorities took decisive action.
Huge Yard Built at Nurpur Bet to House Seized Vehicles
The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has allocated a massive 9,680 square yard area in the Nurpur Bet locality where the city’s largest police vehicle yard (malkhana) has now been developed. This space comes from a larger 48,400 square yard parcel previously lying vacant near the old Animal Carcass Plant.
The main goal of this initiative is to relieve public roads of illegally parked and seized vehicles, which often lead to roadside congestion, nuisance, and potential health hazards for nearby residents. All 28 police stations across Ludhiana will now use this centralized yard to store vehicles that are either abandoned or caught in legal disputes.
Organization and Safety Measures at the New Yard
Under this plan, a separate block has been allocated for each police station, complete with clear naming and identification boards. Around 1,500 vehicles have already been shifted to the new site in a short period, with the remaining ones expected to follow soon.
The land has been fully developed with fencing, sturdy gates, high-mast lights, and advanced monitoring systems, including 16 HD CCTV cameras to ensure 24-hour safety and supervision. Police personnel are also stationed around the clock to maintain order and security.
Benefits for Residents and Traffic Flow
Officials say this step will not only beautify police station surroundings but also significantly improve overall traffic conditions and environmental cleanliness. Roads previously blocked by rusting seized vehicles will now be cleared, offering relief to motorists and residents alike. The new yard ensures vehicles are stored under structured and safe conditions instead of remaining abandoned on busy thoroughfares.
With continued execution of this plan, Ludhiana city can expect clearer streets, improved public hygiene, and a more organized system for handling seized property.
